What's Happening?
Globe Telecom has joined a consortium to build the Candle submarine cable system, which will connect Japan and Singapore with additional links to Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia. The 8,000km cable system, featuring 24 fiber pairs, aims
to enhance connectivity across Asia by providing up to 570 Tbit/s of total capacity. Globe Telecom will serve as both an investor and a landing party, establishing a cable landing station in Nasugbu, Batangas, Philippines. The project is expected to improve data transfer speeds and ensure business continuity by reducing single points of failure, even during natural disasters.
Why It's Important?
The Candle submarine cable system is crucial for boosting digital infrastructure and connectivity in Asia, supporting the growing demand for high-speed internet and data services. For Globe Telecom, integrating the Candle system with its domestic fiber network will enhance service reliability and speed for businesses and consumers. This development is significant for economic growth, as improved connectivity can drive innovation, support digital transformation, and enhance competitiveness in the region. The project also underscores the importance of international collaboration in building resilient and efficient communication networks.
