Rivian Automotive Inc. has announced its entry into the autonomous driving market with the introduction of a new AI chip, targeting Level 4 autonomy. During its Autonomy and AI Day, Rivian's CEO RJ Scaringe highlighted the company's strategy, which includes the Rivian Autonomy Processor (RAP1) capable of processing 5 billion pixels per second. The company plans to equip its upcoming R2 models with LiDAR sensors, 11 cameras, and 5 radars. Additionally, Rivian unveiled its Universal Hands Free assisted driving system, which can operate on over 3.5 million miles of roads in the U.S. and Canada. The company also introduced an Autonomy+ subscription service, available for a one-time payment of $2,500 or a monthly fee of $49.99, set to launch in early
2026.
