What's Happening?
Disney+ has announced a new content partnership with RAI, Italy's state broadcaster, allowing shows to be available on the streaming platform immediately after their linear broadcast. This agreement follows a similar deal with RTVE in Spain, marking Disney+'s
second such collaboration within a week. The deal includes popular Italian shows like 'Belve' and 'The Floor', which will be accessible to Disney+ subscribers in Italy the day after they air on RAI 2. Additionally, Disney+ will feature a collection of past RAI titles, enhancing its local content offerings. This move is part of Disney+'s broader strategy to collaborate with European broadcasters, complementing its global content with local programming.
Why It's Important?
This partnership is significant as it represents Disney+'s strategic push to expand its content library with local European programming, thereby increasing its appeal to regional audiences. By securing content from major state broadcasters like RAI, Disney+ can attract more subscribers in Italy and potentially other European markets. This strategy not only enhances Disney+'s competitive edge against other streaming services but also provides RAI with a platform to reach younger, digital-savvy audiences. The collaboration underscores the growing trend of streaming platforms partnering with traditional broadcasters to diversify content offerings and expand market reach.
