What's Happening?
Terramin Australia Limited has completed an updated mining study for the Tala Hamza Zinc Project in Algeria, through its joint venture company Bejaia Zinc & Lead Spa. The study increases the project's throughput from 1.32 million tonnes per annum (mtpa)
to 2.0 mtpa, enhancing the project's economic viability. The updated plan includes a reduction in the mining cutoff grade and confirms the feasibility of an underground operation with a 2.0 mtpa capacity process plant. Early works have begun, including site access and geotechnical drilling, following successful land acquisition and resident relocation. The project has also secured significant investment incentives from the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of the Tala Hamza Zinc Project is a major development in the mining sector, highlighting the potential for increased zinc and lead production. This project is strategically important due to its proximity to key infrastructure, such as a deep-water port and reliable power sources, which enhances its attractiveness as a global zinc-lead development opportunity. The project's advancement is supported by the Algerian government, which provides various incentives, including tax exemptions and infrastructure support. This development is expected to boost local employment and contribute to the regional economy.
