What's Happening?
Moon Studios, known for the Ori series, has announced plans to increase the price of its action role-playing game 'No Rest for the Wicked' from $40 to $60 once it exits Steam Early Access and launches version 1.0. Currently, the game is available at a 40% discount. Thomas Mahler, the Creative Director, explained that the initial lower price was intended to reward early supporters and make the game more accessible. He compared this strategy to that of Baldur’s Gate 3, which launched at full price during Early Access, a method he personally disagrees with. The current sale is a one-time promotion to encourage more players to join and experience the game together.
Why It's Important?
The decision to increase the price of 'No Rest for the Wicked' reflects a broader
trend in the gaming industry where developers are adjusting pricing strategies to balance early access benefits with long-term revenue goals. By offering a lower price during Early Access, Moon Studios aims to build a strong player base and gather valuable feedback to refine the game before its full release. This approach can foster community engagement and loyalty, potentially leading to higher sales and a more successful launch. However, the price increase may also deter some potential buyers, highlighting the delicate balance developers must maintain between accessibility and profitability.
