What's Happening?
A new darts centre, Hangar61, has opened in Bristol, marking a significant development in the sport's growing popularity. The facility, one of the best of its kind globally, will serve as the National Centre for the Junior Darts Corporation. Founded by
former professional player Steve Brown, the centre aims to provide a non-pub environment for young people to learn and play darts. The rise in darts' popularity is partly attributed to young talent like Luke Littler, who reached the PDC World Final at 16, drawing a younger audience to the sport.
Why It's Important?
The opening of Hangar61 reflects a shift in the cultural perception of darts, traditionally seen as a pub sport. By providing a dedicated space for young players, the centre promotes inclusivity and skill development in a structured environment. This initiative could inspire similar developments in other regions, fostering a new generation of players and expanding the sport's reach. The centre's establishment also highlights the potential for sports to engage youth in positive activities, contributing to community building and personal growth.
