What's Happening?
Mars, Inc. has entered a five-year agreement with ofi to promote regenerative agriculture practices in Ecuador's cocoa production. The collaboration aims to implement climate-smart practices across more than 22,239 acres, involving over 960 farmers. The initiative
focuses on using low carbon fertilizers, improved crop residue management, and biochar applications to enhance soil health and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This partnership builds on a decade-long collaboration in Ecuador, aiming to create a sustainable cocoa ecosystem that supports both farmers and the environment.
Why It's Important?
This partnership represents a significant step towards sustainable agriculture in the cocoa industry, which is crucial for reducing environmental impact and ensuring long-term cocoa supply. By adopting regenerative practices, the initiative aims to improve soil health, increase crop yields, and reduce carbon emissions.
