Kenyan runner Sabastian Sawe made history by becoming the first person to complete a marathon in under two hours, clocking in at 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 30 seconds during the London Marathon. This achievement surpasses the previous world record set by Kelvin
Kiptum at the 2023 Chicago Marathon. Sawe's performance was bolstered by the support of fans along the route and advanced running shoe technology. Two other runners, Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia and Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda, also broke the previous record, finishing in 1:59:41 and 2:00:28, respectively. In the women's race, Ethiopia's Tigst Assefa set a new world record in a women’s-only race, finishing in 2:15:41.
