What's Happening?
The Upper School Symphony and Chamber Orchestra at Harvard-Westlake recently held an Instrumental Solo Concert at the Rugby Auditorium. The event featured performances by several student musicians, including
Jessica Ferrie, Alice Lee, Claire Lee, Collin Kim, David Hadi, and Michael Zhao, among others. The concert opened with pieces like 'Cinema Paradiso' by Ennio Morricone and music from 'La La Land' by Justin Hurwitz. Students expressed the importance of synchronization and emotional expression in their performances. Symphony cellist Rongming Guo highlighted the dialogue between cello and piano in her chosen piece, 'Fantasiestücke' by Robert Schumann, emphasizing the emotional connection she felt during the slower sections. The concert was noted for its emotional depth and the students' ability to convey vivid musical storytelling.
