What's Happening?
Duke Energy has launched the Green Source Advantage Express program in North Carolina, aimed at providing large business customers with easier access to renewable energy. The program allows participants to subscribe to capacity from new renewable energy facilities,
matching up to 100% of their annual electricity use. Early participants include Cisco, United States Cold Storage, and Daimler Truck North America, indicating strong interest from companies involved in logistics and cold chain operations. The program has surpassed initial enrollment targets, with 177.3 megawatts subscribed across Duke Energy territories. Additionally, Duke Energy has introduced an Environmental Attribute Tracking tool to help customers track clean energy attributes and carbon reductions.
Why It's Important?
The Green Source Advantage Express program is crucial for advancing corporate sustainability goals and reducing carbon footprints. By facilitating access to renewable energy, Duke Energy supports businesses in meeting their climate commitments, such as sourcing 100% renewable electricity and achieving science-based carbon reduction targets. This initiative not only benefits participating companies but also contributes to broader environmental goals by promoting clean energy adoption. The program's success reflects growing demand for sustainable energy solutions among large operators, particularly those with significant energy needs like cold storage and manufacturing.
What's Next?
Duke Energy plans to continue expanding the program, reserving additional capacity for new business customers each year. This ongoing access will support more companies in transitioning to renewable energy sources. As the program evolves, it may inspire similar initiatives in other regions, encouraging widespread adoption of clean energy. Stakeholders will likely monitor the program's impact on emissions reductions and corporate sustainability achievements, potentially influencing future energy policies and business practices.
