What's Happening?
Ciena's GeoMesh Extreme solution, featuring WaveLogic 6 Extreme (WL6e) coherent optical technology, has been successfully activated on the Batam–Jakarta segment of the Matrix Cable System (MCS). This submarine telecommunications cable connects Indonesia
and Singapore. The deployment, carried out by Matrix Networks and PT NAP Info Lintas Nusa, marks a significant upgrade, enabling 1 Tb/s per wavelength channel across the 1,055 km link. This enhancement positions Matrix NAP Info as a pioneer in the region for using Ciena's latest coherent optical technology on a live submarine cable system. The upgrade aims to meet the growing demand for cloud, AI, and content delivery services, while also improving capital efficiency and reducing carbon footprint.
Why It's Important?
The activation of Ciena's advanced optical technology on the Matrix Cable System is a critical development for Indonesia's digital infrastructure. It enhances the country's international connectivity, supporting its role as a digital hub in Southeast Asia. This upgrade is crucial for accommodating the increasing bandwidth demands driven by cloud computing and AI applications. For businesses and consumers, this means improved internet speeds and reliability, which are essential for economic growth and technological innovation. The deployment also highlights the importance of investing in cutting-edge technology to maintain competitive advantage in the global telecommunications market.
What's Next?
With the successful deployment of Ciena's technology, Matrix NAP Info is well-positioned to expand its digital ecosystem, including services like MC-IX, Matrix Data Center, and Matrix Cloud. The company may explore further enhancements to its infrastructure to support future technological advancements. As demand for high-speed connectivity continues to rise, other operators in the region might follow suit, adopting similar technologies to enhance their networks. This could lead to increased competition and collaboration among telecommunications providers, driving further innovation and investment in the sector.
