What's Happening?
Caspian Offshore Construction (COC), a Kazakh offshore marine service provider, has acquired a new anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel from Sinopacific Engineering & Contracting (SPEC). This acquisition marks the introduction of the first vessel in the SPA90
series to COC's fleet. The shipbuilding contract was finalized on April 30, 2026, at Siying Shipyard, with a launching ceremony held on May 20. The vessel, named Caspian Yili, is the largest in COC's fleet and features 90 tonnes of bollard pull, DP2 capability, and diesel-electric propulsion. It is designed to support various offshore operations, including towing, anchor handling, field support, subsea operations, and offshore construction activities. This acquisition is part of COC's strategy to invest in offshore marine assets and expand its presence in international offshore markets.
Why It's Important?
The acquisition of the SPA90 AHTS vessel represents a significant milestone for COC, enhancing its operational capabilities and allowing it to support more complex offshore operations. This expansion is crucial for COC as it seeks to increase its market presence and competitiveness in the international offshore industry. The new vessel provides COC with additional flexibility and capability, opening up new market opportunities while also requiring a higher degree of responsibility and expertise. This move aligns with COC's strategic goals of expanding its fleet and enhancing its service offerings, which could lead to increased business opportunities and partnerships in the offshore energy sector.
What's Next?
Following the delivery and deployment preparations, the Caspian Yili is scheduled to join COC's fleet in the fourth quarter of 2026. COC plans to engage with reputable clients to charter the new vessel, which is expected to play a key role in the company's efforts to reach new heights in the maritime industry. The successful integration of the Caspian Yili into COC's operations could lead to further investments in similar vessels, strengthening COC's position in the offshore market and potentially leading to more strategic partnerships and projects.
