Verbum Dei High School is set to honor the late David Greenwood by retiring his jersey during a ceremony on Friday night. Greenwood, who passed away on June 8 at the age of 68 after battling cancer, was
a standout basketball player at Verbum Dei in the 1970s. He played alongside Roy Hamilton, making the team one of the best during that era. Greenwood went on to become an All-American at UCLA and had a 12-year career in the NBA, including a championship win with the Detroit Pistons. He later returned to Verbum Dei as a coach, leading the team to state championships in 1998 and 1999. The jersey retirement ceremony will take place at halftime during Verbum Dei's game against Gardena Serra.
