What's Happening?
The Belleville Three, consisting of Kevin Saunderson, Juan Atkins, and Derrick May, have partnered with the Detroit Pistons to release a capsule collection celebrating the origins of techno music. The collection,
designed by Detroit native Sheefy McFly, features clothing items that pay homage to the genre's roots in Detroit and its Black creators. The collaboration will be highlighted by a performance from the Belleville Three during the halftime show of a Pistons game, coinciding with the start of Black History Month.
Why It's Important?
This collaboration underscores the cultural significance of techno music as a product of Detroit and its Black pioneers. By partnering with the Pistons, the Belleville Three aim to educate and engage a broader audience about the genre's history and influence. The collection and performance serve as a celebration of Detroit's rich musical heritage and its ongoing impact on global music culture. This initiative also highlights the intersection of music, art, and sports, fostering a sense of community and pride in Detroit's contributions to the arts.
