What's Happening?
Battelle has been awarded a contract to advance spectrum sharing technology through its RavenStar Ultra-Wideband Massive MIMO Radio Unit. This contract, part of the Advanced Spectrum Coexistence Demonstration (ASC-D) Program, involves collaboration with
the Kostas Research Institute at Northeastern University and other partners. The initiative aims to validate a spectrum-sharing solution that enhances national security while allowing commercial and telecommunications use of military spectrum. The project focuses on the safe sharing of mid-band frequency spectrum, potentially increasing spectrum efficiency and expanding wireless service capacity.
Why It's Important?
This development is significant as it addresses the growing demand for wireless connectivity and the need for efficient spectrum management. By enabling spectrum sharing, Battelle's technology could allow commercial entities to access military frequencies without compromising national security. This approach not only maximizes spectrum utilization but also supports the expansion of high-speed wireless services for consumers. The successful implementation of this technology could lead to broader adoption of dynamic spectrum sharing, fostering innovation and maintaining the U.S.'s competitive edge in global telecommunications.
