What's Happening?
Damen Shipyards Group has entered into a contract with the Malta-based Polidano Group for the delivery of two Combi Freighters 3850. These vessels, named Denise P and Julia P, will primarily transport aggregates for Polidano's construction business. The decision
to acquire these vessels was influenced by the CF 3850's strong market reputation and its ability to significantly increase cargo capacity. The vessels will replace a single existing vessel, allowing for more efficient transport of aggregates from Albania to Malta. The CF 3850's design includes a box-shaped hold and tween deck, enabling diverse cargo configurations, which will enhance the company's operational flexibility.
Why It's Important?
This contract represents a strategic move for the Polidano Group, enhancing its logistical capabilities and supporting its construction operations. The acquisition of these vessels is expected to boost Malta's cargo transport capacity, benefiting the local economy. The CF 3850's modern design aims to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, aligning with global efforts to improve environmental sustainability in maritime operations. For Damen Shipyards, this contract marks a milestone, as it includes the 49th and 50th vessels of this model, underscoring the company's success in the maritime industry.
What's Next?
Damen Shipyards is set to deliver the first vessel within the year, with the second following in early 2027. This rapid delivery is facilitated by Damen's practice of constructing vessels in series. The Polidano Group will likely focus on integrating these new vessels into their operations, potentially expanding their transport routes and cargo types. The increased capacity and efficiency could lead to further business opportunities within the Mediterranean region, enhancing the group's competitive edge.
