What's Happening?
The Ferris wheel at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, known as La Grande XL, is a significant icon of the event. Despite not being a permanent structure, it is transported to Indio annually on 20 semitrucks and assembled by a team of 10 over
five days. The wheel, featuring 36 air-conditioned gondolas, debuted in 2017 and has become a staple of the festival experience. It includes a custom logo exclusive to Coachella and the Stagecoach Country Music Festival, which lights up at night. This attraction is not only a visual centerpiece but also a popular ride among festivalgoers, offering a unique view of the festival grounds.
Why It's Important?
The Ferris wheel is more than just an amusement ride; it is a cultural symbol of the Coachella festival, representing the blend of music, art, and community that defines the event. Its presence enhances the festival's atmosphere, providing attendees with memorable experiences and photo opportunities that contribute to the festival's global recognition. The wheel's design and operation reflect the logistical and creative efforts involved in producing large-scale events. As a recurring feature, it also highlights the festival's commitment to maintaining iconic elements that resonate with its audience.
