What's Happening?
Gridserve has launched the ABB E-mobility A400 charger on its Electric Highway network, marking a significant upgrade in charging capabilities. The new 400 kW charger, first installed at Centaurus Park
in Bristol, can add over 100 miles of range in under 10 minutes for compatible vehicles. It features two CCS ports for simultaneous charging and dynamic power sharing. The A400 is designed to achieve a 98% charging success rate, aligning with UK Public Charging Point Regulation standards. Gridserve operates over 200 charging locations across the UK, covering 85% of the motorway network, and aims to set a new benchmark for performance and reliability in EV charging.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of the A400 charger by Gridserve represents a significant advancement in the UK's electric vehicle infrastructure. By providing faster charging options, it addresses one of the major barriers to EV adoption—charging time. This development is crucial for the UK's transition to electric vehicles, supporting the government's goals for reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable transportation. The enhanced charging network could lead to increased consumer confidence in electric vehicles, potentially boosting sales and accelerating the shift away from fossil fuel-powered vehicles.
