What's Happening?
The Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa in Waikiki, has completed a comprehensive, multimillion-dollar renovation, marking a new era for the 125-year-old hotel. The renovation spans all 791 guestrooms across three wings, including a refreshed historic
lobby and a new oceanfront event venue. The former Diamond Wing has been renamed the Surfrider Wing, honoring its history as a standalone hotel since 1952. The redesign features contemporary beach-loft interiors inspired by Waikiki's surf culture. The Tower Wing now offers residential-style accommodations with beachfront views, while the historic Banyan Wing reflects classic elegance. The renovation also includes enhancements to the Moana Lani Spa and the introduction of a new co-ed Wellness Lounge.
Why It's Important?
The renovation of the Moana Surfrider underscores the importance of preserving historical landmarks while adapting to modern hospitality standards. As Waikiki's first hotel, the Moana Surfrider plays a significant role in Hawaii's tourism industry, setting a benchmark for how historic properties can evolve. The updates aim to enhance guest experiences by blending the resort's rich history with contemporary design and amenities. This transformation is expected to attract more visitors, boosting local tourism and the economy. Additionally, the introduction of cultural programs like the 'Moana Calls' music series highlights the resort's commitment to celebrating Hawaiian culture.
