What's Happening?
Paramount+ has recruited Damla Dogan, a former Netflix executive, to assist in the development of unscripted content. Dogan, who previously served as Director of Unscripted Originals at Netflix, will be
consulting for Paramount+ and reporting to Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals. Her role involves exploring unscripted development opportunities, although this does not indicate a strategic shift for Paramount+. Dogan's experience includes working on popular Netflix series such as 'The Circle' and 'Bling Empire', as well as leading Netflix's first major live event, the 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Prior to her tenure at Netflix, Dogan was Senior Vice President of Development and Programming at E! Entertainment, where she contributed to shows like 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians'. Her previous experience with Viacom-owned VH1, now part of Paramount, adds to her familiarity with the company.
Why It's Important?
The addition of Damla Dogan to Paramount+ is significant as it highlights the platform's commitment to expanding its unscripted content offerings. This move could position Paramount+ as a competitive player in the streaming market, particularly in the unscripted genre, which has seen growing popularity. By leveraging Dogan's extensive experience and industry connections, Paramount+ may attract a wider audience and enhance its content library. This development also reflects a broader trend of streaming services investing in diverse content to differentiate themselves in a crowded market. For producers, this presents new opportunities to pitch unscripted projects to a platform with substantial resources.
