What's Happening?
The stage adaptation of the popular horror film franchise 'Paranormal Activity' is set to debut on Broadway this fall. Following successful runs in London's West End and several U.S. cities, the production will begin a limited 20-week engagement at the August
Wilson Theatre starting August 14, with an official opening on September 15. The adaptation, written by Levi Holloway and directed by Felix Barrett, introduces a new storyline featuring a couple moving from Chicago to London, only to find themselves haunted by supernatural forces. Jason Blum, the original producer of the film series, is among the producers for the Broadway show.
Why It's Important?
The transition of 'Paranormal Activity' from film to stage represents a significant expansion of the franchise, highlighting the growing trend of adapting popular films for live theater. This move could attract a new audience to Broadway, particularly fans of the horror genre, and demonstrates the potential for immersive theater experiences. The production's success could influence future adaptations of film franchises, potentially leading to more diverse offerings on Broadway and expanding the reach of theatrical productions.
What's Next?
The Broadway production will follow a pre-Broadway engagement in Boston, running from July 11 to July 30. Casting details are yet to be announced, and the production team is likely to focus on marketing strategies to attract both theatergoers and fans of the film series. The success of this adaptation could pave the way for similar projects, potentially leading to more film-to-stage adaptations in the future.
