What's Happening?
Shuka Minerals, listed on AIM and JSE, has appointed Ox Drilling as the contractor for its Phase 1 drilling program at the Kabwe zinc mine in Zambia. The program, managed by Shuka's subsidiary Leopard Exploration and Mining, will commence in mid-May.
It involves a 2,000-meter diamond drilling initiative targeting known mineralized zones at depths of 100 to 500 meters. The results will inform the broader 10,000-meter Phase 2 program and a resource upgrade later this year. This marks the first resource drilling at Kabwe since the 1970s.
Why It's Important?
The initiation of this drilling program is a critical step for Shuka Minerals in expanding its resource base and enhancing the value of the Kabwe zinc mine. By increasing the existing resource by 50%, the company aims to boost its zinc and lead production, which is vital for meeting global demand. The exploration also seeks to understand the concentrations of silver, vanadium, germanium, and gallium, potentially adding value to the project. This development could significantly impact the local economy and the global zinc market, providing a new source of these essential minerals.
