Three Nebraska volleyball players, Campbell Flynn, Manaia Ogbechie, and Keoni Williams, have been selected to join the 2026 U.S. Women's U21 National Team. These athletes are among 27 chosen to train with the team this summer. The training is part of
preparations for the 2026 NORCECA Women's U21 Pan American Cup, where 20 of these athletes will compete. The remaining seven will train alongside select U19 National Team athletes for a chance to participate in the 2026 NORCECA Women's U23 Pan American Cup. Tama Miyashiro from LOVB will serve as head coach for the U21 team, while Alex Dunphy, also from LOVB, will lead the U23 team.
Why It's Important?
The selection of these Nebraska players highlights the strength and talent present in the state's volleyball program. Participation in the U21 National Team provides these athletes with significant exposure and experience on an international stage, potentially enhancing their skills and career prospects. This opportunity also underscores the importance of youth development in sports, as it allows young athletes to compete at higher levels and gain valuable experience. The involvement of Nebraska players in national teams can boost the state's reputation in volleyball, attracting more talent and resources to its programs.
What's Next?
The selected athletes will undergo rigorous training sessions in preparation for the upcoming Pan American Cups. Their performance during these training sessions will determine their participation in the competitions. The U21 Pan American Cup will take place in Columbus, providing a platform for these athletes to showcase their skills. Success in these events could lead to further opportunities, such as selection for future national teams or professional contracts. Stakeholders, including coaches and sports organizations, will closely monitor the progress of these athletes.
