What's Happening?
Eni and MSC Cruises have completed a successful test of Enilive's HVO biofuel in maritime transport, specifically on the cruise ship MSC Opera. The trial involved using pure HVO to power one of the ship's engines for approximately 2,000 hours without
any engine modifications. The test demonstrated that HVO can be used in marine engines validated for its use, maintaining performance comparable to conventional marine fuels. The trial recorded significant reductions in nitrogen oxide and particulate emissions, as well as an 80% reduction in lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional marine fuels. The performance and emissions data were independently validated by Bureau Veritas.
