What's Happening?
Leonardo has commenced the construction of a multi-sensor low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellite constellation. The project, which is company-funded, aims to deploy approximately 20 satellites with launches starting
next year. The constellation will feature radar imaging, electro-optical, and infrared capabilities, with plans for in-space links and artificial intelligence for autonomous operations. The system is expected to achieve initial operational capability by 2028.
