What's Happening?
The San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival, Frameline, is celebrating its 50th edition by featuring 'Teenage Sex & Death at Camp Miasma' as its closing night film. Directed by Jane Schoenbrun, the film recently premiered at Cannes and will be
showcased at the Castro Theatre. Schoenbrun will receive the Frameline Queer Lens Award for Filmmaking. The film stars Hannah Einbinder and explores themes of desire and fear within the context of a slasher franchise revival. The festival will run from June 17-27, featuring 140 films from 35 countries.
Why It's Important?
Frameline's selection of 'Camp Miasma' highlights the festival's commitment to showcasing diverse and innovative LGBTQ+ cinema. By honoring Jane Schoenbrun with the Queer Lens Award, the festival recognizes the importance of unique storytelling that reflects the complexities of queer and trans experiences. This event not only celebrates the achievements of LGBTQ+ filmmakers but also provides a platform for underrepresented voices in the film industry. The festival's milestone 50th edition underscores its role in promoting cultural diversity and fostering a sense of community through film.
