What's Happening?
Duke Energy has launched the Green Source Advantage Express program aimed at large business customers in North Carolina. This initiative provides a streamlined way for nonresidential customers to access renewable energy capacity on Duke Energy's grid.
Participants can subscribe to capacity from new renewable energy facilities and match up to 100% of their annual electricity use without independently securing off-site generation. Early adopters include Cisco, United States Cold Storage, and Daimler Truck North America, indicating strong participation from companies with significant cold chain and logistics operations. The program has exceeded initial enrollment targets, reaching 177.3 megawatts subscribed and allocated across Duke Energy territories.
Why It's Important?
The Green Source Advantage Express program represents a significant step towards increasing renewable energy adoption among large businesses. By providing a streamlined access to renewable energy, Duke Energy is facilitating corporate sustainability goals, which can lead to substantial reductions in carbon emissions. This initiative supports businesses in meeting their environmental commitments, such as sourcing 100% renewable electricity by 2030, as stated by United States Cold Storage. The program's success could encourage other utilities to adopt similar models, potentially accelerating the transition to renewable energy across the U.S.
