Geneva High School's baseball team, led by junior shortstop Nelson Wendell, clinched the Class 3A Sycamore Sectional title with an 11-7 victory over Rockford Boylan. Wendell, playing under the guidance of his father and head coach Brad Wendell, delivered
a crucial two-out, two-run triple that broke a scoreless tie in the third inning. This hit was part of a five-run surge that set the tone for the Vikings' win. The team, boasting a 32-7 record, will advance to the Geneseo Supersectional to face East Peoria. Senior third baseman Ryan Kastor and designated hitter Nick Torrence also contributed significantly, with Kastor providing a sacrifice fly and an RBI single, and Torrence hitting a two-run double. Junior pitcher Noah Hallahan and senior reliever Blake Kopec played pivotal roles in maintaining the lead, with Kopec striking out six of the seven batters he faced.
