What's Happening?
Arkouda Stays is set to open Arkouda House, a 20-room luxury wellness hotel in Big Bear Lake, California, in May 2026. The hotel is part of a multimillion-dollar redevelopment project near Big Bear Village,
transforming the site originally known as Honey Bear Lodge into a modern alpine retreat. Arkouda House will feature a wellness center with amenities such as a sauna, hot tub, and cold plunge, catering to couples, groups, and small families. This development follows the opening of Arkouda Cabins, a nine-unit retreat, in November 2025. The initiative reflects Big Bear's growth as a year-round destination, attracting travelers interested in wellness and high-altitude training.
Why It's Important?
The opening of Arkouda House highlights the increasing demand for wellness tourism and the appeal of cooler mountain destinations during summer. This trend is significant for the local economy, as it positions Big Bear Lake as a competitive destination for health-conscious travelers. The investment in luxury accommodations and wellness facilities can boost tourism revenue and create job opportunities in the region. Additionally, it underscores the broader shift towards experiential travel, where visitors seek unique and enriching experiences that promote well-being.
