What's Happening?
Two central Wisconsin football officials, Rich Hohl from Stratford and Jim Haluska Jr. from Stevens Point, have been recognized by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) and the Green
Bay Packers as part of the officiating crew of the month for November. This recognition is part of a broader initiative by the National Federation of State High School Associations and the NFL to honor high school football officials who demonstrate objectivity, fairness, and commitment. Hohl, with 35 years of experience, is noted for his role in developing the skills of fellow officials and volunteers at football clinics. Haluska, an official for nearly 30 years, is known for training and scheduling officials for youth and junior high school games, with many of his mentees advancing to higher levels of officiating. Other honorees include Dan Anderson of Holmen, Cole Tappe of New Richmond, and Robert Lunowa of Hartland.
Why It's Important?
The recognition of these officials underscores the critical role that fair and committed officiating plays in high school sports. By highlighting the contributions of officials like Hohl and Haluska, the initiative aims to promote the values of integrity and fairness in sports, which are essential for maintaining the spirit of competition and sportsmanship. This acknowledgment not only honors the individuals but also encourages others in the officiating community to strive for excellence. The involvement of prominent organizations like the NFL and the Packers in this initiative further elevates the status of high school sports and emphasizes the importance of quality officiating at all levels.
What's Next?
The officials recognized as part of the Crew of the Month will be considered for the Wisconsin 'Crew of the Year' award. The NFL clubs' Crew of the Year honorees will then be submitted to the National Federation of State High School Associations and the NFL to determine a national Crew of the Year. The winners of this national recognition will be announced at a future date, providing further opportunities for these officials to be celebrated on a larger stage.
