What's Happening?
The Penticton Trade and Convention Centre (PTCC) celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2025 with a record-breaking year, hosting over 150 events and attracting more than 170,000 visitors. Managed by the Oak
View Group, the PTCC saw a significant increase in activity, including 15 conventions, 11 consumer shows, 19 banquets, one trade show, and 35 special events. This surge in events contributed to a 43.7% increase in hotel room revenue in Penticton in April 2025 compared to the previous year. The Oak View Group anticipates another strong year despite the rotational nature of convention locations.
Why It's Important?
The success of the PTCC in 2025 highlights the economic impact of convention centers on local economies. The increase in hotel stays and visitor numbers underscores the role of such venues in driving tourism and business travel, which can lead to increased spending in local businesses and services. The PTCC's ability to attract national associations and new conventions demonstrates its competitive position in the industry, potentially setting a precedent for other convention centers aiming to boost local economic growth through similar strategies.
What's Next?
Looking ahead, the Oak View Group expects continued success for the PTCC, although the rotational nature of conventions means that not every year will see the same level of activity. The group plans to leverage the momentum from 2025 to attract more events and visitors, potentially expanding its offerings and partnerships. Stakeholders, including local businesses and tourism boards, may collaborate to capitalize on the increased visibility and economic benefits brought by the PTCC's achievements.
