Walt Disney Pictures initially considered creating a sequel to the 2010 animated film Tangled. However, the project was ultimately shelved as the creative team struggled to find a compelling story to continue the journey of Rapunzel and Eugene. According
to Nathan Greno, the film's co-director, Disney held discussions with the original team to brainstorm ideas for a sequel.
