What's Happening?
The Dallas Cowboys have signed two undrafted free agents (UDFAs) from Texas schools following the conclusion of the 2026 NFL Draft. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Cowboys have added SMU wide receiver Jordan Hudson and TCU tight end DJ Rogers
to their roster. Both players have strong ties to Texas, with Hudson being a native of the Dallas area. Hudson, who began his college career at TCU before transferring to SMU, had a productive season with 61 receptions for 766 yards and six touchdowns. Rogers, who played 13 games for TCU last year, recorded 34 receptions for 319 yards and two touchdowns. The signings are seen as a significant opportunity for both players to continue their football careers at the professional level.
Why It's Important?
The signing of undrafted free agents like Hudson and Rogers highlights the importance of local talent in the NFL. For the Dallas Cowboys, securing players with strong regional ties can enhance team chemistry and fan engagement. Hudson's and Rogers' signings also underscore the competitive nature of the NFL, where players not selected in the draft still have opportunities to prove themselves. This move could potentially strengthen the Cowboys' roster depth, particularly in positions that require development and versatility. For the players, joining the Cowboys offers a chance to showcase their skills on a larger stage and compete for a spot on the team, which could lead to long-term career opportunities in the league.
What's Next?
As Hudson and Rogers join the Cowboys, they will enter training camp with the goal of securing a spot on the team's final roster. Their performance in training and preseason games will be crucial in determining their future with the team. The Cowboys' coaching staff will evaluate their skills, adaptability, and potential contributions to the team's overall strategy. Success in these areas could lead to a permanent position on the team, while underperformance might result in further competition for roster spots. The Cowboys' management will also continue to assess other potential signings to enhance their squad ahead of the upcoming NFL season.
