What's Happening?
Arafura Rare Earths has entered into a binding offtake term sheet with Traxys North America to supply neodymium/praseodymium (NdPr) oxide and dysprosium/terbium (DyTb) oxide to the US. The agreement supports the revitalization and onshoring of domestic
manufacturing across sectors such as automotive, defense, and advanced technologies. Traxys plans to supply 500 tons per year of NdPr oxide and 7.5 tons per year of DyTb oxide from Arafura's Nolans project in Australia into the US supply chain. The agreement is for five years, with an option to extend by two years.
Why It's Important?
The offtake agreement between Arafura and Traxys North America is crucial for strengthening the US supply chain of critical minerals. By securing a steady supply of rare earth oxides, the US can enhance its manufacturing capabilities in key sectors, reducing reliance on foreign sources. This agreement aligns with government initiatives to establish resilient critical minerals ecosystems, supporting economic growth and technological advancement. The partnership is expected to contribute to the stability and competitiveness of US industries, particularly in the face of global supply chain challenges.
