What's Happening?
JA Solar, now rebranded as JA, has announced a new record in solar cell efficiency with its back-contact (BC) solar cells achieving a 28.2% conversion efficiency. This milestone was verified by TÜV Rheinland
and achieved using HyperGen technology, developed in collaboration with Golden Stone Energy. The breakthrough combines BC cell architecture with heterojunction (HJT) and tunnelling oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) technologies. This advancement not only increases efficiency but also simplifies manufacturing processes, highlighting the potential for large-scale applications in the photovoltaic industry.
Why It's Important?
The achievement by JA Solar represents a significant advancement in solar technology, potentially leading to more efficient and cost-effective solar energy solutions. As the demand for renewable energy sources grows, such innovations are crucial for meeting global energy needs sustainably. The increased efficiency of solar cells can reduce the cost of solar power, making it more accessible and competitive with traditional energy sources. This development could accelerate the adoption of solar energy, contributing to global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change.
