What's Happening?
A new youth-led initiative called '1More' has been launched in Milwaukee to address and dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health. Developed by the Voices of Hope Youth Internship Coalition in collaboration with the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and NAMI
Southeast Wisconsin, the campaign is designed by and for young people. It aims to create a supportive environment where mental health issues can be openly discussed, encouraging young individuals to seek help without fear of judgment. The campaign also promotes the use of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline for immediate support.
Why It's Important?
The '1More' campaign is crucial in addressing the mental health crisis among youth, a demographic that often faces unique challenges and barriers to accessing mental health care. By fostering an open dialogue and reducing stigma, the initiative can lead to increased awareness and acceptance of mental health issues, potentially improving outcomes for young people. This campaign aligns with broader national efforts to prioritize mental health, especially in the wake of increased mental health challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
