OpenAI is reportedly developing its first hardware product, a smartphone optimized for AI applications, with plans to begin mass production by early 2027. According to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the phone will feature a customized version of the MediaTek
Dimensity 9600 chip, which is expected to enhance the device's visual sensing capabilities through an advanced image signal processor. The phone is also anticipated to include LPDDR6 memory, UFS 5.0 storage, and a dual-NPU architecture to handle various AI computations simultaneously. OpenAI aims to ship around 30 million units between 2027 and 2028, positioning the phone's sales on par with major flagship models from established brands.
