Telia, a major telecommunications company in Sweden, has announced a partnership with Brookfield, a Canadian multinational corporation, to advance 'sovereign' AI initiatives in Sweden. This collaboration involves connecting Brookfield's planned AI-focused
data centers to Telia's extensive fiber network across the country. Telia's subsidiary, Cygate, which has recently established a unit dedicated to sovereign AI, will manage a secure operations center within Brookfield's facilities. This setup is designed to ensure that AI cloud services are delivered under Swedish jurisdiction, adhering to local data sovereignty laws. Telia will have exclusive rights to market these AI cloud services to businesses and public sector clients in Sweden. Brookfield initially announced its intention to invest up to 95 billion Swedish kronor (approximately $10 billion) in Sweden's AI infrastructure in June 2025.
