What's Happening?
The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) has launched a survey aimed at gathering input from motor carriers on the use of telematics data in their operations. This survey is part of the 'Capitalizing
on Telematics' study, identified as a top priority by the Research Advisory Committee in 2025. The study seeks to document industry best practices and evaluate how fleets are utilizing telematics data across operations, safety, and maintenance. The findings will be used to develop a best practices guide for leveraging telematics data to improve fleet performance. Motor carriers are encouraged to participate in the confidential survey, which remains open until April 17.
Why It's Important?
The survey conducted by ATRI is crucial for understanding how telematics data is being used in the motor carrier industry. By gathering insights from carriers, ATRI aims to establish industry benchmarks and guidance that can enhance safety, operations, and maintenance performance. The development of a best practices guide based on the survey findings can help carriers optimize their use of telematics data, leading to improved efficiency and reduced operational costs. This initiative supports the broader goal of advancing technology adoption in the transportation sector, potentially leading to safer and more efficient fleet operations.
