What's Happening?
Plukon Food Group, a Netherlands-based company, has acquired Avícola Moraleja, a Spanish poultry business also known as Avimosa. This acquisition is part of Plukon's strategy to strengthen its presence in central Spain and enhance its vertical integration
in the poultry sector. Avimosa, which operates across the supply chain from feed production to processing, reported revenues of €56 million last year and employs over 250 people. The acquisition follows Plukon's previous purchase of Grupo Avícola Hidalgo, further consolidating its market position in the Iberian Peninsula. Plukon aims to deliver high-value poultry products to retail and foodservice customers across the region.
Why It's Important?
This acquisition is significant for Plukon Food Group as it bolsters its strategic expansion in Europe, particularly in the competitive Spanish market. By integrating Avimosa's operations, Plukon can enhance its supply chain efficiency and product offerings, potentially leading to increased market share and profitability. For the Spanish poultry industry, this move could stimulate competition and innovation, benefiting consumers with better quality and variety. Additionally, the acquisition aligns with broader trends in the food industry where companies seek to consolidate operations to achieve economies of scale and improve sustainability practices.
