Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited (LMEL) has announced plans to import cobalt from its share in the Congo mines to India. LMEL, in partnership with the US-based Virtus Mineral Group, has taken over the CHEMAF Group, a mining company in the Democratic Republic
of Congo. The joint venture aims to produce 20,000 tonnes of cobalt and 60,000 tonnes of copper annually. The move is significant as it provides a non-Chinese source of cobalt, a critical mineral for various industries, including electronics and renewable energy.
