What's Happening?
Kennedys Law LLP has announced significant leadership changes in its Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. James Melvin has been appointed as the new Regional Managing Partner for APAC, effective March 1, 2026. Melvin, who relocated to Australia from Kennedys'
London office in 2015, has been serving as the Managing Partner of the Sydney office. Nicole Wearne has been named the new Australian Managing Partner. These appointments follow the decision of Matt Andrews, the outgoing APAC Regional Managing Partner, to step down and focus on his role within the global Executive Group and his practice, particularly in insurance disputes and commercial litigation. Andrews has been instrumental in leading the Australian team in multi-jurisdictional litigation, notably involving the collapse of Greensill Capital.
Why It's Important?
These leadership changes at Kennedys are pivotal as they align with the firm's global growth ambitions. By appointing experienced leaders like James Melvin and Nicole Wearne, Kennedys aims to strengthen its presence in the APAC region, a critical market for legal services, especially in insurance and commercial litigation. The transition also reflects a strategic focus on expanding the firm's capabilities and influence in significant legal markets. This move could enhance Kennedys' competitive edge in the global legal industry, potentially attracting more high-profile cases and clients, thereby increasing its market share and influence.
