What's Happening?
Fincantieri, a prominent shipbuilding company, has been honored by the Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA) for its outstanding workplace safety performance in 2025. The recognition was awarded to three of Fincantieri's U.S. shipyards: Fincantieri ACE
Marine in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Fincantieri Marine Repair in Jacksonville, Florida, and Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. These facilities received accolades under the SCA's annual safety awards program, which highlights shipyards that achieve a Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) below the industry average. Fincantieri ACE Marine and Fincantieri Marine Repair were awarded the Excellence in Safety award, while Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding and Fincantieri Marine Repair also received the Improvement in Safety award for reducing their TRIR by at least 10% year over year. Notably, Fincantieri Marine Repair's Jacksonville facility received its first national safety award.
Why It's Important?
The recognition of Fincantieri's shipyards for safety excellence underscores the company's commitment to maintaining high safety standards in the shipbuilding industry. This achievement not only enhances Fincantieri's reputation but also sets a benchmark for other shipyards to follow. By prioritizing safety, Fincantieri helps ensure the well-being of its workforce, which can lead to increased productivity and reduced operational disruptions. The awards also highlight the importance of safety in the maritime industry, where workplace hazards are prevalent. As Fincantieri continues to lead in safety practices, it may influence industry-wide standards and encourage other companies to adopt similar measures, ultimately contributing to a safer working environment across the sector.
