What's Happening?
Kanthal has inaugurated a new service center in Concord, North Carolina, to enhance its production and deployment of high-temperature electric heating technologies. This expansion is part of a broader $11 million investment program aimed at meeting the
growing demand for electrified industrial processes in sectors such as electronics, glass, and steel. The Concord facility will produce a range of heating solutions, including the Globar® silicon carbide heating element technology, which supports industrial heating applications up to 2,950°F. This move is expected to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency as industries face increasing pressure to decarbonize.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of Kanthal's manufacturing capabilities in the U.S. is significant as it aligns with the broader industrial shift towards electrification and decarbonization. By replacing combustion-based systems with electric heating elements, manufacturers can lower emissions and enhance energy efficiency, addressing the 75% of total emissions in the manufacturing sector attributed to combustion. This development not only supports regional demand but also strengthens Kanthal's position in the U.S. market, which has been a focus since the 1930s. The new facility will also improve manufacturing flexibility and responsiveness to customer needs, reducing lead times and enabling more agile support.
