What's Happening?
The Northern Michigan Master Gardener Association is set to host its annual Spring Plant Sale on May 30 at the Emmet County Fairgrounds in Petoskey. The event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon, will feature
a variety of locally grown plants, including native and non-native perennials and shrubs. These plants are acclimated to Northern Michigan's climate, eliminating the need for hardening off before planting. In addition to plants, the sale will offer gardening supplies such as tools, pots, and garden art. Master Gardeners will be present to provide advice and answer gardening questions, and a Smart Gardening table will offer free information on various topics. New this year, the sale will include seeds harvested from local gardens, available for purchase at three packets for $1.
Why It's Important?
The Spring Plant Sale serves as a significant fundraiser for the Northern Michigan Master Gardener Association, supporting its mission to fund educational programs and community projects. The event not only provides gardeners with access to locally adapted plants but also fosters community engagement and education. By offering expert advice and resources, the association helps promote sustainable gardening practices and environmental stewardship. The inclusion of seeds and educational materials further enhances the event's value, encouraging participants to explore new gardening techniques and contribute to local biodiversity.
