PMET Resources, an ASX-listed lithium explorer, has confirmed through a concept study that its Shaakichiuwaanaan project in Québec's Eeyou Istchee James Bay region can viably produce a value-added lithium chemical on-site. This development aligns with
Canada's objectives for domestic processing of critical minerals, potentially reducing logistics intensity over time. The company evaluated seven processing flowsheet options and selected Primero's ALi atmospheric leach process as the preferred method due to its economic potential, logistics efficiency, and low technical risk. Bench-scale tests using this process produced a 99.8% battery-grade lithium carbonate. The on-site processing strategy, which includes the potential use of electric calcination powered by Québec's renewable energy, aims to reduce carbon intensity and improve efficiencies in the battery materials supply chain.
