What's Happening?
Los Angeles County officials are working to ensure that the production of the 'Baywatch' reboot remains in Venice Beach despite previous reports suggesting it might be relocated. On Friday, LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath met with city officials,
production leaders, and agency representatives at Fox Studios to address logistical issues and government restrictions impacting filming. Los Angeles City Councilwoman Traci Park confirmed that the show was never intended to leave Venice or Los Angeles. The meeting resulted in updates to the Coastal Development Permit, which will facilitate future productions. The production has received a $21.1 million tax credit from the California Film Commission, and filming is set to continue through July.
Why It's Important?
The decision to keep 'Baywatch' in Venice is significant for the local economy and the entertainment industry in Los Angeles. The production is expected to contribute to sustaining the local economy and reinforcing Los Angeles' position as a global entertainment hub. The tax credit and logistical support from local officials highlight the importance of the entertainment industry to the region's economic health. The production's presence in Venice also supports local businesses and tourism, providing economic benefits beyond the immediate film industry.
What's Next?
With the production secured in Venice, the focus will be on addressing the logistical challenges identified during the meeting. This includes more flexible production hours, expanded parking, and the creation of a dedicated on-set liaison. These measures aim to streamline the production process and ensure that filming can proceed smoothly. The success of these efforts could set a precedent for future productions in the area, potentially attracting more film and television projects to Los Angeles County.
