What's Happening?
Okanagan College is hosting the OC Cultivates event series in May, focusing on the culinary arts and hospitality industry in the Okanagan region. The event will take place at the Kelowna campus and aims to connect students, local industry leaders, and the community.
It will feature a panel discussion with family-run wine producers who will share their experiences in building successful businesses. Additionally, there will be a tasting festival showcasing food and drinks from local restaurants and at least 12 wineries. The event celebrates the UNESCO City of Gastronomy designation and looks forward to the future of hospitality and tourism in the area.
Why It's Important?
The OC Cultivates event series is significant as it fosters collaboration between educational institutions, local businesses, and the community. By highlighting the contributions of small family-run businesses, the event underscores the importance of supporting local industries and preserving regional culinary traditions. It also provides students with valuable networking opportunities and insights into the hospitality and tourism sectors. The event's focus on the UNESCO City of Gastronomy designation can enhance the region's reputation as a culinary destination, potentially attracting more tourists and boosting the local economy.
