What's Happening?
US beauty and personal care manufacturers are gearing up for Indonesia's 2026 halal certification requirement, which mandates compliance for all personal care products entering the market. The regulation necessitates facility and product-level compliance, including avoiding non-halal animal derivatives and meeting ethanol thresholds. Mohammad Hussaini, director of the American Halal Foundation, advises companies to secure certification by August 2026 to ensure compliance by the October deadline. The certification process involves audits and documentation, impacting both brand owners and contract manufacturers.
Why It's Important?
The upcoming halal certification requirement in Indonesia represents a significant regulatory challenge for US beauty manufacturers seeking
to access this market. Compliance will require adjustments in supply chains and production processes, potentially increasing operational costs. However, achieving certification can enhance brand reputation and open access to the broader global halal market, which extends beyond Indonesia. This development highlights the growing importance of halal certification in international trade and the need for companies to adapt to diverse regulatory environments.
