What's Happening?
Uzbekistan has certified its first private Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) provider, Centrum Best MRO, a joint venture between My Freighter and Kyiv-based Best MRO group. This facility is set to enhance the country's aviation maintenance capabilities,
initially focusing on aircraft wheels, brakes, and battery units, with plans to expand its services. The move is part of Uzbekistan's broader strategy to become a major aviation hub in Central Asia, following the liberalization of air transport regulations in 2018. The country's commercial fleet is expected to grow significantly, surpassing neighboring Kazakhstan in the number of aircraft by the end of the year.
Why It's Important?
The establishment of a private MRO facility marks a significant step in Uzbekistan's efforts to modernize and expand its aviation industry. This development is expected to attract international business, reduce reliance on government-owned maintenance facilities, and support the growing demand for aviation services in the region. By enhancing its aviation infrastructure, Uzbekistan aims to position itself as a key player in Central Asia's air transport sector, potentially boosting economic growth and creating new job opportunities. The expansion of the commercial fleet and increased passenger traffic further underscore the country's potential as an emerging aviation hub.
What's Next?
Centrum Best MRO plans to broaden its service offerings and attract clients beyond Uzbekistan, contributing to the country's goal of becoming a regional aviation leader. The Uzbek government is likely to continue supporting initiatives that enhance the aviation sector, including further liberalization and infrastructure development. As the commercial fleet grows, Uzbekistan will need to address challenges related to capacity and competition with neighboring countries. The success of these efforts will depend on continued investment and strategic partnerships within the global aviation industry.
